A Indonesian guest from Bangladesh!

Sunil asked me if we could host a couch surfing guest on the first week when I arrived in Hyderabad. He had already experienced couch surfing both as a guest and as a host many times in the past. Although I always loved my friends to come and stay with me, I had never used couch surfing and I had a rather negative feeling about it. However, it seemed that I didn’t have any choice as we need to depend on couch surfing when we go on an around the world bicycle trip in 2016, so I said “Yes”.

Fina (Herfina) phoned me from the Hyderabad airport. She sounded nice so I was bit relieved. When I opened the door and saw her, I knew that everything would be OK.
She is an Indonesian lady who is working in NGO in Bangladesh. She came to Hyderabad as she was attending a week International NGO conference in Hyderabad. She stayed two nights with us and we had a great time. We talked about traveling, love, work, her life in Tokyo, many things like we are like old friends.
The day before she left, we asked if we could have an Indonesian night. Although she needed to give her presentation in the conference next day, she agreed with our idea.
Sunil asked a watchman Raju to create a mini barbecue place in our small balcony. (It seems that there are no health and safety regulation here!) and he grilled the chicken which I marinated. Herfina prepared yummy chicken noodle dishes (She made a delicious chicken stock herself). We had a feast on that night!
It was sad to see her off the next day but she came back the following day as she forgot something special in our flat. She came with lovely pastries from the posh hotel where she was staying during the conference. We were very happy to meet her her again and we were also happy to eat the delicious cakes!
I was glad that Sunil took me out from my comfort zone and gave me a new experience.
ハイドラバードに到着したその週に、ス二ルが、カウチサーフィングのゲストを受け入れてもいいかと聞いてきた。ス二ルは、カウチサーフィングをゲストとしてもホストとしても、過去に何回も経験しているのだか、友達に泊まってもらるのは大好きではあるけれど、見知らぬ人を受け入れることには、正直いって消極的であった。でも、２０１６年に計画している自転車旅行のときに、あちこちでカウチサーフィングを利用する予定があるので、ここでは「イエス！」と言わざるを得なかった。
ハルフィーナが空港から電話をしてきたときに、「この人は良さそうだ。」という感じがした。ドアを開けて、彼女を見た瞬間、きっと全て大丈夫！と思った。
ハルフィーナは、インドネシア人で、バングラデッシュのNGOで働いているのだが、今回はハイドラバードで１週間行われる世界NGO大会に参加するために来ていた。話を聞いていたら、実は東大で修士をとるために、日本に２年間住んでいたという人だった。うちには２日間しか泊まらなかったが、旅行、恋愛、東京の生活等々、いろいろな話を旧友のように遅くまで語り、とても楽しい時間が過ごせた。
彼女が帰る前の日に、「インドネシアナイトをしない？」という勝手な私とス二ルの提案に喜んでのってくれた。
ス二ルが管理人のラジュに、バルコニーでバーベキューができるように、その辺にあるもので、簡単にバーベキューをするところを作ってもらい、（この人達には、危険なことはしないようにとかっていう感覚は全くない！）私がマリネした鶏肉をバーベキュー。ハルフィーナはじっくり鶏肉でダシをとった汁で美味しい鶏肉のヌードル料理を作ってくれた。いやあ、御馳走！御馳走！だった。
翌日、彼女は大会が行われるホテルに移動してしまって寂しい感じがしたが、その次の日に、泊っている高級ホテルで購入したケーキを持って、うちに忘れものをとりに戻ってきた。彼女にまた会えて、美味しいケーキを食べられて幸せ～な思いをした私とス二ルでした。
一人だったら、自分が少しでも嫌だなあと思うことはしなかった。頑張らなきゃいけないこととか努力しなければいけないことは、ストレスになるので、極力避けるのだけど、今回、そういったところから、ス二ルが抜けださせてくれたおかげで、とても良い経験ができて、本当にうれしい。
